MEET THE EXPERTS

J. Alan Kirkham

President

J. Alan Kirkham has dedicated over 65 years to the post frame building industry, beginning his career in 1960 with his Grandfather's company, Kirkham and Son in Powell Ohio. Kirkham and Son was the first pole building company in central Ohio.

Later, when his father started the Delaware Ohio Division of the Umbaugh Pole Building Company, Alan worked for him mastering the roles of Crew foreman, draftsman, and building and paneling the new Umbaugh office. After completing his degree at OSU for Industrial arts and Teaching, Alan went to work at the Umbaugh company headquarters in Ravenna, Ohio where he was instrumental in developing Umbaugh's Quality Control Program, Crewman training program including video recording efficient crews, Truss Design work, Material Take offs and Standard Drawings, and Doing time studies for standard minutes that he still uses today. He also worked to manage their growth East into New York, Southern Pennsylvania, and Virginia, when he started and operated their Allentown, Pa Lumber yard that supplied all of Umbaugh's Eastern Divisions. Throughout his tenure, he has mastered many roles, and went on to become Division President at the new Umbaugh Division in Shellbyville, Kentucky. Here he developed all facets of the new division from selling buildings, leasing office space, to finding and training the workforce for a highly successful division.

After Umbaugh closed its doors, Alan began working as a salesman at the Harris, Jollif, and Michel Pole Building Company in Byhalia, Ohio, where he excelled in the sales and management of their buildings. In 1985, Alan established Kirkham Building System, Inc. (KBSI) in Delaware, Ohio. He soon purchased the property where his father ran the Delaware Division of Umbaugh. Today he continues to lead KBSI as President. Under his guidance, KBSI has earned the reputation for constructing high-quality post frame buildings for commercial, agricultural, and residential purposes and from day 1 provided an unprecedented 5 year warranty on all of KBSI’s work. Alan's commitment to excellence is further demonstrated by his multiple terms on the Delaware County Board of Building Appeals, addressing complex construction issues. Alan has demonstrated the highest of integrity throughout his career, both professionally and personally, and has in turn taught and fostered those values and countless skills into the next generations of Kirkham’s. Alan will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of KBSI alongside 2 more generations in April 2025.

Donald Kirkham

General Manager

Don Kirkham, Alan's son, is the fourth generation of Kirkham's to work in the post frame building industry. Don started with his father's company in 1991 working as a crewman in the summers. He remembers the hard work in the hot summers as a time of learning and great experience. He then worked his way up, learning all the facets of the trade. He served as planner and sales representative while attending OSU. After college Don became the Sub-Contractor Coordinator and worked closely with the General Forman. He continued on and became the General Forman coordinating the efforts of the entire construction department. Don has also been the company Safety Officer. From 2008 to 2012 Don left the industry and became the Service Advisor for a successful Automotive Shop in Westerville, where he developed the personal fortitude to work closely with many customers. In October of 2012, Don returned to KBSI to lead business development and proudly work alongside his father to continue the tradition of quality and experience that is KBSI.

Don is an avid reader and believes personal development is essential. He continues his education through safety training, personal studies, seminars and reading. Don lives in Powell, OH with his wife. His son and daughter also both work for KBSI. He enjoys bear hunting, bicycling, and time with his family.

June Amrine

Secretary

June Amrine has worked for the Kirkham family through 3 generations beginning with Alan’s father. It has been a great relationship becoming friends rather than just employer/employee. She began as the receptionist and typist for the company and provided limited accounting help. As the company grew, June became responsible for more duties and took over the main accounting work. As the years have passed and technology has changed June has grown also. Starting out everything was done in ledgers and now has moved to computers. With the varied tasks involved in the day to day operations at KBSI it is never boring. When calling KBSI, June may be the individual greeting you and will be happy to assist you in whatever way possible. Everyone within KBSI cares about the customers and desires to ensure each project is completed with satisfaction. From answering the telephone to completing her accounting tasks, June will do her best to service each customer cheerfully.

Niki Nugent
Secretary

Niki Kirkham has been around KBSI all her life. She started out doing drawings and designing some marketing material, and has since moved into a full-time secretary position. When you call the office, she'll most likely be the first person you speak to. She's happy to assist you in whatever way she can, and get you connected to the right person.

When she's not in the office, she runs her own calligraphy business. She also loves to paint, draw, and fish.

Brian Kirkham

Salesman

Brian has worked on the crew and now as a salesmen. He started working after school at KBSI but went on to other jobs and has now returned to the family business. He enjoys meeting with people and helping them with their selections. Like most of the family, he enjoys fishing. His large lure collection attests to that.

Ethan Kirkham

Office Coordinator and General Foreman

Ethan Kirkham has worked for KBSI since he was a kid. From picking up stray nails on job sites for a penny, he's come a long way. He started working on the construction crew during the summer of 2014 when he was 16 years old. After high school, Ethan joined the Ohio Army National Guard, when he works as a truck driver. Now, he also works in the office when he makes material lists, orders materials and assists in other administrative tasks. On his off days, he loves golfing, shooting, fishing, and working on vehicles.

Sam Ashworth
Subcontract Coordinator

Sam has become a real asset to KBSI with his reliable, efficient work. In has spare time he enjoys hunting and spending time with his wife and daughter.
